Ideas for ETH development from ETH members
Until the end of October, members of ETH Zurich can submit ideas on how the campuses should be developed in the future in terms of mobility, waste management and spaces for interaction.
In the year 2020, ETH Zurich will count about 27,700 members. This means an increase of 66 per cent between the years 2000 and 2020, which poses challenges for the future development of the university. One question asked in the ideas competition regards the transport infrastructure and possibilities, and what alternative forms of mobility could bring lasting improvements to the quality of life and work at ETH Zurich. Another question concerns the handling of lab, food and green waste, recycling and littering. The third question is what kinds of spaces, both physical and virtual, can best support and promote interdisciplinary exchange at ETH.
ETH members can develop ideas any of these three topics (mobility, waste, spaces for interaction) and submit their concepts until 31 October. The three best project ideas will be rewarded with a total of 6000 Swiss francs. The competition is open to students, doctoral candidates and employees of ETH Zurich. The ideas should apply to the two main ETH campuses in the city centre and on the H?nggerberg.
The submitted concepts must be sustainable in social, economic and ecological respects. The winning projects will not only be rewarded but also implemented. The costs for the submitted project ideas should not exceed 50,000 Swiss francs and the implementation should not take longer than six months.
The 2013 ideas competition is based on experiences made in earlier projects (for example ecoworks, the 2009 ideas competition, idea management), where ETH members could submit ideas for the development of the university and its campus. Many of these ideas were turned into reality, including the indoor climbing wall at H?nggerberg, the community garden project Seed City, and the market that takes place on the H?nggerberg campus every May and October.
